Caleb's Graduation

This is Caleb's pre-school class (he's the tall guy at the front of the line). Today was their graduation. I made it early (shocking) and was sitting there waiting for the ceremony to start so decided to get the camera out and ready. I should have realized that things were going a little too smoothly. Upon turning it on, the words flashed that there was no memory card! Oh NO! I quickly called Karin who happened to be walking out the door.
Aunt Karin saved the day and showed up just in time to lend us her camera. She even charged the batteries the night before. Lucky for us Karin and the kids were also willing to delay a lunch date with Jim and stay to watch Caleb's ceremony.
It was so much fun having Caleb's cousins and little sister there to celebrate this milestone with him. Thanks Elizabeth, Anna, James and Chloe.
He did it! After completing a year of pre-school, Caleb has graduated and is now ready to move on to Kindergarten. Here he is with his teacher Miss Traci.

KrAZieS at Krispy Kreme

We were having so much fun together at the band concert that we didn't want the night to end. We took the crew to Krispy Kreme for a nightcap of sugar and milk. Bridger, Laura and Hazel met us there.

I couldn't get Jayden to be in a picture because his teeth must've been hurting. Every time he saw me approach with the camera he ducked or turned away. I hope he is feeling better!

And the Band Played On

Carter with his Band Leader, Mr. Davis. My 7th grade music leader was Mr. Davis, too. My Mr. Davis is probably in an old folks home by now.

Playing on the bleachers at the school was a highlight for the kids, until Jayden fell and smacked his teeth. He was a good sport and despite blood and tears looked on the bright side that he was getting a head start on firth grade tooth loth.

I thought it was amazing that 6'5" Jim's flight suit fit Carter without alterations. It must be flood and wedgie prone on Jim. Karin confirmed this to be true.

These are some dedicated fans. It was cute when James stood up at the end of the concert and waved his lighter in the air.

Last night was Carter's final band performance of the school year. The concert theme was "At the Movies". In addition to playing movie songs, all of the musicians dressed up as movie characters . This has been distressing for Carter to think of who to dress up as, although we had a lot of fun brainstorming for him. We wanted him to borrow Uncle Dave's Nacho Libre costume. Chase suggested cutting Carter's bangs straight across his forehead so he could be Lloyd Christmas. Carter thought that was dumb. Thanks to Jim, his top gun Uncle, he was able to borrow a flight suit, don some aviator glasses and go as Iceman. His Idaho cousins and Aunt Karin showed up to support the budding musician. James and Elizabeth seemed to be the most into the performance. Corbin was into getting drinks and finding any excuse to get out into the hall. The rest seemed to really enjoy their lollipops. Karin came well stocked and this helped rescue a crying Chloe. When I told Carter that we all really enjoyed the concert, he said, "Well then why was Chloe crying so hard?"

Boston has the Red Sox

Boston has the Red Sox, Chicago has the White Sox and we've got the Church Sox! I love how all other church clothes get changed out of, but somehow the church socks remain. Keeping just a touch of the Sunday attire justifies the Sabbath day ball playing.

Our 15th Wedding Anniversary

It turns out our 15th year anniversary and Mother's day fell on the same day this year. To celebrate we took a much needed weekend away to San Francisco. We stayed in the elegant Mark Hopkins International where we slept in every morning. The feather bed was heavenly. The first day we ventured out on our own by foot and cablecar and ended the day at Barnes & Noble where we bought maps and books for ideas of where to go. The next day was Mother's Day and our anniversary. We discovered our hotel offered a brunch, but we were too late & missed getting reservations. Apparently they went quickly. Later we found out it was $97 per person and $54 per child (kids meals must come with quite a toy). We weren't too heartbroken after finding that out. We ended up having a delicious brunch elsewhere. We then spent the day sightseeing atop a double decker bus tour--those always work out well for us. We were able to see the whole city, go across the Goldengate bridge and take stop off breaks in between to sample the local culture and cuisine. We capped off the night with a romantic dinner at the viewless, but still delicious and elegant, Nob Hill restaurant at our hotel. We had a wonderful time and look forward to when we're able to go without our chaperone, Chloe. We actually had a great time with her and wish we had a nickel for everyone who commented on her big blue eyes. We would have come home from the trip with extra money in our pockets!

Politically Incorrect, But Funny

Caleb has taken notice of the differences between people, but isn't neccesarily sure what to attribute them to. For example, we recently went to lunch at a Mexican restaurant and upon entering he pronounced in a loud voice, "There sure are a lot of Chinese people in here." Apparently Mexican's and Asian's appear the same to him.
Tonight as we were driving down the rode I noticed the third Obama for President bumper sticker of the day. I said, "Wow. There sure are a lot of people for Obama around here."
Caleb responded, "Is Obama Chinese?"
"No. He's African-American." I replied.
"Who was the first African-American?", he asked.
Not wanting to get into a big discussion, I said,"I think it was Cain."
He said, rather surprised,"John McCain?!!"
